One of my favorite things to do when I have had a difficult day is to do something kind for someone else. I know that sounds counter intuitive and that we need to be kind to ourselves too, but sincerely, nothing assists in changing my mood faster than fostering kindness. It pulls my focus away from myself and it is a gift that gives back.

Yes, there are times a hot bath, a massage, or a new pair of shoes does do the trick, but a quick, free, and easy way to change my mood is to show some kindness to another being. Smiling at a child when you don’t feel like it.  Kissing them on the head when you feel like screaming at them.  Taking a minute to scratch your dog’s belly in the midst of chaos can reset that internal meter that is running out of steam.

Kindness is often repaid with kindness so don’t be surprised if you find yourself the recipient of another’s act of kindness back. Now that’s a mood booster times two!

There are times in our lives when things seem too heavy to carry.  Everyone goes through this; if this is happening to you right now you are not alone.  I have been there. We all have been there.  For me, that’s where the power of faith has the ability to move mountains.

It doesn’t matter who or what you believe, faith is believing that there is something greater than ourselves. I believe this perception can make all the difference in the world. If more people could embrace the concept of our earthly limits and embrace with compassion our sameness, empathy would be plentiful. Bringing faith into your daily life through prayer, practice, and meditation can lighten even the most fatiguing of loads. To give up seeking control over those things we fundamentally can not control, allows us to use our energy in other places.

The power of faith can move mountains if we let it and it works pretty darn good on molehills, too.  If it’s been a long time since you have connected with your faith, then now is the time to do so. It’s another great tool in the arsenal of life.  When you have faith and remember to move your feet, it’s amazing what you can do!
